Everyday intentions

Niyyah for work: a good intention

I work to provide for my family, to be independent, and to have something to give.

A good niyyah for work

Earning is part of giving. Asked about someone with nothing to give, the Prophet ﷺ said: let him work with his hands, benefit himself and give in charity (Sahih al-Bukhari 1445).

Your wages at home count too. Spending on your family while hoping for Allah’s reward is sadaqah (Sahih al-Bukhari 55).

See where you can give, country by country, with every pound shown.

Habits that go with it

Small sunnahs around the act.

  • Do the job well and honestly, as worship done for Allah (Sahih al-Bukhari 1).
  • Set aside something to give, however small, from what you earn (Sahih al-Bukhari 1445).
